 Starting with AARC

Mission

The mission of the Ann Arbor Rowing Club is to provide and promote a safe, affordable, and educationally rewarding rowing experience for residents of Ann Arbor and the surrounding area.

How you get started rowing with AARC depends upon several things - Take a look at the categories below to see where you fit in.

What time of year is it?

AARC rows on the water April - October

Learn to Row (LTR) classes typically run in May, June and July

Learn to Scull (LTS) classes typically run in June, July and August

What type of rowing do you want to do?

Sweep rowing is when each rower has one oar. Boats are composed of 2, 4, or 8 people and usually have a coxswain (pronounced cox'n).

Sculling is when each rower has two oars. Sculling is typically done alone in a boat, but can also be done on our water in a boat of 2 rowers.

What is your rowing experience?

If you're new to the sport, then you will begin by enrolling in the appropriate learning class. Check out our Learn to Row or Learn to Scull programs.

If you have rowed or sculled previously, you may be able to join one of our programs directly. We offer 4 programs, Technical SweepOpen SweepOpen Sculling, Inclusive Rowing.

More information about the programs can be found on the links above.
Registration for programs can be found on the Fees and Registration page.
