Rower-Coxswains

AARC rowers are expected to contribute to practices by taking a turn in the coxswain seat of the boat. We track when people row and cox and ask that all members work to maintain a ratio of coxing one practice for every 5-6 rowing practices they attend. We keep the information updated in the Row/Cox Tally Weekly Report found on the member's home page. The coaches use this information to boat people for practices. More information on coxing can be found here: Coxswain Information. In addition to the coxing materials available on our website, coaches will provide on-the-water training and guidance to new coxswains.

Those who can't cox for some reason (i.e., size) can instead be certified to drive a safety launch (SLD) for a captain's practice to meet their obligations.

Advance sign-up for practices

Advance sign-up helps make the most of practice time. It facilitates effective line-ups and avoids the need for rowers to switch in/out of boats and send rowers home.

To be assigned a seat in practice, rowers must sign up WEEKLY with their availability for the next week. Your sign-up is due by noon Thursday of the week prior. The sign-ups are compiled into a schedule of daily line-ups that are posted (via link) on the club’s website home page by Sunday for that week's practices. It is important to regularly check the schedule on website before any practice for changes.

Once you have signed-up and been boated, attendance at practice is mandatory. Please refer to Attendance Policy for Sweep Rowing

Racing!

Interested members are encouraged to race in regattas. During the summer and fall racing season, the club will attend a number of local, regional, and national regattas. Some of these regattas have events specifically for novice and recreational rowers that we invite rowers from the Technical program to participate in. See the Regatta Participation page for more information on racing.
